These Terms & Conditions for Tourism Business Database (‘Terms’) apply to the access to, and use of, the Tourism Business Database, by each person who registers to the Database.

Your registration to the Tourism Business Database is conditional on your acceptance of these Terms, which are intended to create a binding contract between you and Tourism New Zealand. By registering with the Tourism Business Database, you accept these Terms, and acknowledge that you are bound by these Terms and the  newzealand.com  terms of use available at  https://www.newzealand.com/int/utilities/terms-of-use/  (‘Website Terms’), which are incorporated by reference into this agreement, which together constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Tourism New Zealand. Tourism New Zealand may accept or reject applications to register to the Tourism Business Database at its discretion. If Tourism New Zealand accepts your application, Tourism New Zealand will notify you accordingly.

Tourism New Zealand may change or otherwise modify these Terms in the future. Tourism New Zealand will note the date of revision to these Terms and let you know of material changes by either sending a notice to the email address provided to us at registration or by placing a notice on the Tourism Business Database website ( https://register.newzealand.com/ ).

Your continuing access or use of the Tourism Business Database feature following such notification or publication will be deemed your acceptance of the revised Terms.

We reserve the right to add to, modify, or remove the Tourism Business Database or any information, feature, specification, or other part of the Tourism Business Database (at any time and without notice to you).

Overview of the Terms

newzealand.com  connects potential international travellers directly to information about New Zealand so they can plan their holiday and purchase relevant travel products and experiences.

The  Tourism Business Database  is a free platform for approved New Zealand based tourism operators and key offshore travel industry to connect travellers with their products via  newzealand.com  and other channels.

Partners may submit user content (as defined in Website Terms), including, images, text, pricing, and location information to create Business Profiles, Product Listings, Deals and Explore Offers in the Tourism Business Database.

User content is subject to the Website terms and based on the licence you grant to Tourism New Zealand for user content, Tourism New Zealand may share and display user content on  newzealand.com , Tourism Business Database, and any other media Tourism New Zealand may choose at its discretion from time to time, including paid media, or organisations (such as Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) that TNZ has arrangements with (such as an application programming interface (API) or web services arrangement).

To register your businesses and products in the Tourism Business Database, you and your products must meet the criteria for acceptance. Eligible businesses include any legitimate tourism products targeting international travellers visiting NZ on a holiday. It includes activities, accommodation, experiences, day trips or multi-day tours and packages. Airlines, travel agencies, and visitor information centres are also accepted. Each has specific eligibility criteria. TNZ may reject your application for registration to the Tourism Business Database if it considers, in its sole and absolute discretion, that you do not meet any one of the relevant eligibility criteria.

There are three business types accepted into the Tourism Business Database:

New Zealand Based Operator
Accommodation, activity, transport or multi-day tour and package products or services based in Aotearoa New Zealand

Visitor Information Service
On-the-ground visitor information services open to the public

Travel Seller
Travel Agency or an Airline offering travel to Aotearoa New Zealand

Aggregator businesses, apps or websites are typically not accepted, as our priority is connecting travellers directly to the New Zealand businesses supplying the product or service. Accommodation management services are accepted if Product Listings are for individual New Zealand properties and the property does not have its own Product Listing on  newzealand.com .

More information on criteria can be found in the section ‘Detailed eligibility criteria for registration

  • Any content that is not up to date (in TNZ’s opinion) may be removed from the Tourism Business Database.

Within each Business Profile a Partner must create individual Product Listings for each of the products or services they wish to have included on the Tourism Business Database. Partners are solely responsible for user content that they make available to the Tourism Business Database. Partners represent and warrant that any user content you submit to Tourism Business Database: does not infringe any copyright, privacy right, or any other right of any third party; and does not contain any matter that is defamatory, offensive, unlawful or that may damage the reputation of Tourism New Zealand or the New Zealand tourism industry.

  • Promote user content through third party marketing partners

Tourism New Zealand will not disclose, sell, or rent the information provided by partners for Listings in part or in full, other than for the purposes listed above, without the prior permission of the Partner.

By providing Listing information to Tourism New Zealand, the Partner agrees to any such information being shared with third party websites and any other digital media or applications for publication. However, Tourism New Zealand does not guarantee that the Listing information published will be posted on third-party websites.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tourism New Zealand takes no responsibility for any material published on other websites. If a Partner no longer wishes its Listing to be published on a 3rd party channel or website, Tourism New Zealand will ask that the third-party remove the Product Listing information when the website or content is next updated.

Where we collect your personal information (or you provide us with personal information of other individuals), our Privacy Policy will apply to that information. In such cases, this Agreement must be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy available at

Moderation of Tourism Business Database and  newzealand.com  content

A Business Profile, Product Listing, or Deal must be relevant and appropriate for this site. When a Partner first registers or resubmits user content on this site, Tourism New Zealand completes a vetting and approval procedure to ensure that the content has been properly entered and is appropriate for this site based on Tourism New Zealand’s policies.

All decisions relating to content on  newzealand.com  and the Tourism Business Database are at the absolute discretion of Tourism New Zealand. Tourism New Zealand intends to undertake periodic reviews of all content and may change content if needed e.g., Product Listings category or content may change if we consider that the current category or content is not appropriate or relevant.

We reserve the right to add to, modify, or remove the Tourism Business Database or any information, feature, specification, or other part of the Tourism Business Database (at any time and without notice to you).

Removal of content from Tourism Business Database and  newzealand.com

While Tourism New Zealand intends to monitor content and conduct reviews of Listings, Tourism New Zealand takes no responsibility for the accuracy of the information that is provided by the Partner. Partners are responsible for ensuring that all information provided by them is accurate, up-to-date, and is not misleading or infringes the law, or the rights of any person. Partners must access and update their content, as necessary.

Tourism New Zealand may periodically request Partners to review or update their user content. If the user content is not reviewed and is inaccurate Tourism New Zealand may delete, unpublish the user content, and/or remove it from Tourism Business Database and/or  newzealand.com .

Tourism New Zealand may remove any content, including any user content, Business Profile, Listing, Deal, and/or Explore Offer at its absolute discretion, including (but not limited to) if:
  • the Partner no longer operates the tourism business as described in the Business Profile, Product Listing, Explore Offer, or Deal; or
  • the Partner has permanently ceased trading or Tourism New Zealan reasonably believes that the Partner has permanently ceased trading (as may be inferred from the Partner, Qualmark, RTOs or any other sources); or
  • the Partner is seen by Tourism New Zealand, or Tourism New Zealan reasonably believes that the Partner is seen by the general public to be sub-standard or unprofessional in their operations and trading (as may be inferred from the Partner, Qualmark, RTOs or any other sources); or
  • Tourism New Zealand receives a consumer complaint about the Partner’s conduct that is not resolved to our satisfaction; or
  • any of the Partner Product Listings are inconsistent with the delivery of a quality experience; or
  • the submitted user content is a duplicate.

Tourism New Zealand retains the right to determine the definition of ‘sub-standard’ or ‘unprofessional’ practices. These definitions include (but are not limited to) illegal business practices, non-response to consumer complaints, or the use of profanity in communications.

Communications

You consent to receive communications from the Tourism Business Database to the email address(es) provided at registration.

Languages and markets

User Content (including Business Profiles, Deals, Explore Offers, and Product Listings) must be submitted in English which acts as the ‘parent’ version of the content in the Tourism Business Database. This content will appear in the International English version of  newzealand.com  as well as other English-language versions on the site such as Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Product Listings and Deals can then be separately submitted for the following versions of the site in the languages of other key markets: Simplified Chinese, German, Korean or Japanese.

The Partner must provide proofed translated content and have staff with the language ability to support enquiries in the languages selected. Ideally the partner will have a website and booking process in these languages.

It is not recommended to submit translated listings if you are unable to offer these services.

If a travel agency is based in a country to which there is no language version of the site; like France, Indonesia, a Spanish or Portuguese speaking country, The Netherlands or Thailand, the Product Listing or Deal must be in English.

Recognised accreditation

Tourism New Zealand recognises Qualmark as New Zealand’s approved quality rating system. Partners that are Qualmark endorsed will be placed at the top of each category of Product Listings in user search in a random order within each award grade (Qualmark Gold, Silver or Bronze). Product Listings that are not endorsed follow in random order within the category they are listed. This random order varies at regular intervals.

For more information visit  www.qualmark.co.nz . See the  Adding Qualmark Information  for instructions on how to link Qualmark awards to your listing.

Tripadvisor IDs may also be attached to a Business in the Tourism Business Database. This enables TripAdvisor ratings and review numbers to appear on  newzealand.com . Tourism New Zealand reserves the right to remove non-current award logos from Product Listings.

Tourism New Zealand is not affiliated with, makes no representations about, has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third party websites or services (such as Tripadvisor). You acknowledge and agree that Tourism New Zealand is not responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with the use of or reliance on any such content, goods, or services available on or through any such third party websites or services. We advise you to read the terms and conditions and privacy policies of any third-party websites or services that you visit.

Detail on eligibility criteria for registration

When a Partner first registers a Business Profile in the Tourism Business Database, they need to select the ‘Business Type’ that best describes the activity of their business (from the list of categories available on this site – the list may change from time to time).

There are three business types accepted into the Tourism Business Database:

New Zealand Based Operator
Accommodation, activity, transport or multi-day tour and package products or services based in Aotearoa New Zealand

Visitor Information Service
On-the-ground visitor information services open to the public

Travel Seller
A travel agency or an airline offering travel to Aotearoa New Zealand

New Zealand based operators

The New Zealand Based Operators business type is most appropriate to businesses that provide travel experiences and services to visitors when in New Zealand.

There are four distinct types of Product Listings which can be created under a New Zealand Based Operator business type:
  • Accommodation
  • Activity
  • Multi-Day Tours & Packages
  • Transport providers

If a business offers multiple tourism products in various categories, these can be submitted as separate Product Listings under the same Business Profile. For example, a winery offering a tour/tasting experience and on-property accommodation or a holiday park with campsites and motel units can each submit two Product Listings.

Accommodation

Accommodation Product Listings provide travellers with a way to discover, explore and book accommodation to suit their needs during their visit in New Zealand.

There are some general requirements for Accommodation Product Listings:
  • The accommodation supplied must be located and operated in New Zealand.
  • You must be the owner/manager/management company who has exclusive rights to market and list the property by written agreement with the owner. If multiple parties, try to list the same property only one Product Listing will be published to avoid duplication. The property’s street address must be included in the Product Listing so any duplications can be checked for (street number may be omitted if required).
  • Add details about facilities and features of the property as visitors of  newzealand.com  can search and filter using these.
  • On-site and surrounding activities only provided to guests can be described as part of the accommodation Product Listing. Activities made available to the public and not offered solely to guests at their accommodation should be registered as a separate Product Listing under Activities.

Accommodation Product Listings are for short-stay holiday accommodation in New Zealand. If a property’s status changes to offer long-term rental accommodation or is sold for residential use, please advise Tourism New Zealand and it will be removed from the site.

Accommodation listing categories are:

Recreational facilities and additional amenities/services may be provided

Lodge accommodation is for multiple guests with a range of facilities for the exclusive use of guests and includes provision of most meals. May be set in a picturesque and/or private location. New Zealand’s Luxury Lodges offer fine accommodation and excellent cuisine in comfortable surroundings with the famed kiwi hospitality. Most offer specialist activities such as personalised fishing or wine tours, golfing or wilderness adventures, or spa facilities for guests only. They have an emphasis on viewing or taking part in farm activities and touring the farm. There can be a meal option with the host.
Accommodation Type
Definition
Note: if two separate types of accommodation are offered and can be easily distinguished in the list above, please add multiple accommodation Product Listings (e.g., one for hotel rooms and one for self-contained apartments) under one Business Profile. A Product Listing is not needed for each room type in the same property.

Activities & Day Trips

Activities & Day Trips are promoted to travellers looking to explore and enjoy the wide range of experiences that New Zealand has to offer. These include activities on land, air, or water; New Zealand arts, culture, and heritage; sports and education; and nature and wildlife experiences.

Products classified as Activities & Day Trips are focused on a single experience, or combination of experiences that have a limited duration or scope that visitors can take part in during their trip.

These standalone products offer flexibility and freedom, allowing visitors to tailor their itineraries to match their preferences (and usually do not represent the majority of their itinerary like a multi-day / multi-region tour may do).

Key characteristics of Activities & Day trips:
  • Variety: Activities & day trips can vary widely and include outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, culinary exploration, and adrenaline thrills.
  • Singular experience: tend to be independent experience, but a product such as a Day Trip that offers a combination of a small number of activities (e.g. a single adventure/adrenaline experience combined with a single food & drink experience) is also included in this category.
  • Shorter Duration: Most activities tend to range from a few hours to a full day, depending on the nature of the experience. In some scenarios, an activity might be overnight (e.g., an overnight boat cruise) or completed over multiple days (e.g., a 3-day hike on a great walk). These are still considered activities as they have limited geographic range.
  • Some activities may be self-guided, while others may involve the presence of a guide or instructor.

Example of Activities & Day Trips
  • A bungy jump or canyon swing activity
  • A self-guided half day cycle around multiple wineries, with lunch included
  • A guided round of golf with hotel transfers
  • A day trip from one city into another region (e.g., Return trip from Auckland to Hobbiton & Waitomo caves)

Multi-Day Tours & Packages

Multi-Day Tours & Packages are a comprehensive, inclusive travel offering that combines multiple components of a trip into a single package. It includes various elements such as visiting multiple regions, participating in multiple activities, accommodation, guided tours, transportation (flights or ground transfers), meals, and sometimes even additional services like travel insurance. The tour or package is over multiple days, typically has a pre-defined itinerary (although there can be customizable elements) and visits different cities and regions within New Zealand.

Key characteristics of a Multi-Day Packages & Tours:
  • Inclusive: It covers various aspects of the trip, ensuring convenience for travellers as many aspects are pre-arranged.
  • Itinerary: The tour comes with an itinerary, specifying the dates, locations, and activities that are part of the package.
  • Expert Guidance: Many package tours provide the services of experienced guides or tour leaders who accompany the travelers throughout the journey.
  • However, some are self-guided tours where bookings are made for the traveller, but they drive themselves.

Example of Multi-Day Tour & Packages Product Listing examples:
  • A 12-day South Island highlights tour by coach
  • A group tour visiting top locations across New Zealand over 21 days
  • A 7-day supported cycle or motorcycle tour
  • Self-guided tours and packages (the itinerary is pre-organised but there is no guide)
  • A cruise around New Zealand waters over a series of days

If your product doesn’t meet this criterion, then you should select ‘Activities & Day trips’ under the product type.

Differences between Activities & Days trips and Multi-day Packages & Tours
In summary, a multi-day package tour offers a comprehensive and curated travel experience that includes various components of a trip, whereas an activity is a singular experience that travelers can engage in during their journey. While a package tour provides an inclusive and structured itinerary, an activity is a specific experience that travelers can choose to add to their trip independently.

If your company offers multi-day tours as well as part/single day you can submit separate Product Listings under both the Activity and Tours categories.
You can further clarify your Product Listing by selecting the most appropriate ‘Tour Type’:
Title
Title
Tour Type
Definition
Group Tours
Multi-day group tours with a fixed itinerary
Guided Tours
Small group with a customised itinerary and a guide, multi-day
Independent Tours
Customised itinerary, but no guide or driver, multi-day

Visitor Information Service

Visitor Information Centre’ listings are designed so visitors to New Zealand can plan where on their travels they can find an information or isite centre. Therefore, you need to operate your visitor information centre from a physical location that is accessible to your customers during business hours.

A visitor information centre must offer on-the-ground visitor information services to the public. If you are an isite Visitor Information Centre your listing may be identified with the official Visitor Information Network brand: isite.
Please note that information centres that belong to the isite network will be placed at the top of the Visitor Information Centre listings on this site, in a random order. Other visitor information centres will follow those listings, in a random order.

Airlines

International airlines in New Zealand’s key inbound markets can submit separate Product Listings geotagged to specific country of origins from which they run services to New Zealand.
For domestic airlines & businesses offering scenic flights:
Domestic airlines in New Zealand should not use the Airlines Product Listing Type. Instead, they should create a New Zealand Based Operator business and then a Transport Product Listing with the Air Transport category selected.
Businesses supplying scenic flights in New Zealand by fixed wing planes or helicopter should submit an Activity Product Listing, under the New Zealand Based Operator business type.
