Creating a Travel Deal

What is a Travel Deal?

A Travel Deal is a small tile on  newzealand.com  which advertises a special travel offer. This can be for an activity, tour, accommodation offering, transport or a package.

To load a travel deal, a business must first be registered in the Tourism Business Database and have an approved Product Listing on  newzealand.com . Once a Product Listing has been approved, the deals function will appear in your account in the Tourism Business Database, where you can create and submit deals to show with your Product Listing and/or articles on  newzealand.com .

How to create a new Deal

Step 1: Click on the Deals tab in the top navigation

Step 2: If resubmitting an expired Deal for a future date range, it will already be there to edit. You're more likely to be creating a new one. If so, click on Add a new deal.

Step 3: Choose the English language versions of  newzealand.com  you’d like the Deal to show on.  If you select one market the Deal will show in that currency. For example, US$ or UK£.  If you select New Zealand and other Markets the Deal will show in NZ$ across all versions of the website.

Step 4: Choose the Deal type to match what you’re offering on your website. Tourism New Zealand research has shown that Price Point, Save Amount and Percentage Off lead to more referrals to business websites.

Step 5: The first Image in the product Listing will come across to illustrate the Deal.  Click on Choose File to change this out.  The image shouldn't have a logo or any text on it, as these can be cropped when published to  newzealand.com .

You can also select another image to add to a deal by clicking 'Choose File'

Step 6: Write the Deal text. Focus on the key benefits of booking and avoid repetition, as there is a relatively small space to work in. If a Family Deal which includes separate Adult and Kids rates, specify these in the Deal, so parents see if an offer suits their family. E.g . 2 Adults + 2 Kids <14 or 2 Adults + up to 3 Kids <16.  If an activity with weight or height restrictions, also specify these in the Deal E.g. Min weight 30kg.

Step 7: Link the More about URL to the page on your website that has deal information. Alternatively, include a promocode in the deal, people can quote or put in your booking engine to book. E.g. Quote promocode SUMMER

Step 8: Set the date range the deal will display on  newzealand.com   This can be up to 12 months from today.  Most deals are for a shorter period and can be resubmitted when you have pricing for a new offer.  The Start and End Dates don’t express when an exhibition or tour runs, only when the deal will be up on  newzealand.com

Step 9: When happy with the deal, choose Submit for approval.  If wanting to review another time before submitting, choose Save Draft.  If neither option is chosen, this content won’t be saved.

Note: If the Product Listing is approved in Simplified Chinese, German, Korean or Japanese you can submit a deal in those languages to show on  newzealand.com  in that currency.  We suggest you only submit, if you have staff fluent to handle enquiries and bookings and can confirm bookings at one rate until the deal ends.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question
Answer
What should I consider when choosing an image?
  • An image showing people enjoying the experience is recommended.
  • Submit without text or a logo on the image, as these crop when published to  newzealand.com .
  • If submitting several deals, distinguish them with different images.
What should I put in the Prefix field?
A word that defines a Deal’s $ value. ‘From”, ‘Now’ and ‘Per Person’ are common.
Where should the More about URL link?
Directly to deal information, including pricing, to encourage booking.
Alternatively, include a promocode in the deal text that people can use to book at the deal rate.
Can dynamic pricing deals be approved?
No, because consumers need to be able to book at the advertised rate on  newzealand.com  throughout the deal period. Once a deal is published by Tourism New Zealand, the rate is set and can't be changed to match daily changes in dynamic pricing.
Can competition or draw type deals be approved?
No, because an approved deal needs to be open to anyone who wants to book from  newzealand.com  and not be conditional of going into a competition or joining a brands loyalty programme.
