Create a translated version of an approved English Product Listing to provide useful information for visitors in supported markets. The Tourism Business Database currently supports translated Product Listings in:
- Simplified Chinese
- German
- Japanese
- Korean
Translations are optional. Only create one if your business can provide accurate translated content and support visitors using that language.
Your English Product Listing must be approved before you can create a translated version.
Create a translated Product Listing when:
- You actively target visitors who use that language
- Your business can provide an accurate, natural translation
- Your website or booking journey is available in the same language
- Your team or booking provider can support enquiries in that language
- Important booking, accessibility and safety information can be communicated accurately
Do not create a translation simply to increase visibility. If you can't support visitors through the enquiry and booking journey in that language, an English Product Listing may be more appropriate.
Your translated Product Listing must accurately reflect the approved English version. You may use translation tools to help prepare a draft, but the final content should be checked by someone fluent in the language who understands your product and relevant tourism terminology.
Do not submit an unreviewed machine translation. Inaccurate, unclear or misleading translations may not be approved. Your business remains responsible for the accuracy of:
- Product descriptions
- Prices
- Inclusions and exclusions
- Dates and operating seasons
- Locations and meeting points
- Booking and cancellation conditions
- Suitability and accessibility information
- Health and safety information
- Website and booking links
The translated Product Listing should contain the same core facts as the approved English version. This includes:
- The product, service or experience being offered
- Location and duration
- Prices and operating periods
- Inclusions and exclusions
- Suitability and accessibility information
- Booking and cancellation conditions
- Health and safety requirements
- Website and booking information
You can adapt the wording so it reads naturally for the intended audience. Do not introduce claims or information that are not supported by the English Product Listing.
Website and booking links should lead to pages in the same language as the translated Product Listing. Before submitting, check that:
- The linked webpage opens in the correct language
- Visitors can understand the product information
- Prices and availability match the Product Listing
- The booking journey remains in the selected language where possible
- Visitors can identify how to contact your business for help
Use a direct link to the relevant product or booking page. Don't send visitors to an unrelated homepage.
Before starting, make sure the English Product Listing has been approved.
Sign in to the Tourism Business Database.
Open the relevant business.
Go to your Product Listing dashboard.
Find the approved English Product Listing you want to translate.
Open beneath the Product Listing card.

Select the language you want to add.
Complete each required field in the selected language.
Add website and booking links to pages in the same language.
Review the complete translation for accuracy and consistency.
Submit the translated Product Listing for approval.
Each translated Product Listing is reviewed before it can be published.
Tourism New Zealand will review the translated Product Listing
If changes are required, open the translation, review the moderator feedback, make the required changes and submit it again.
Once approved and published, the translated Product Listing can be made available to visitors using the relevant language.
Translated Product Listings do not replace the approved English version. They are separate versions that need to remain accurate and current.
Make the same factual updates across all affected languages and submit the updated translations for approval where required. If your business can no longer support visitors in a language, update or remove the affected translated content.
Once a translated Product Listing has been approved, you can create a market-specific Travel Deal in the same language. Make sure:
- The offer is available to visitors using that language
- The dates and price are accurate
- All conditions are clearly translated
- The booking journey supports the selected language
- Your business can respond to questions about the offer
Which languages are supported?
The Tourism Business Database currently supports translated Product Listings in Simplified Chinese, German, Japanese and Korean. You must first have an approved English Product Listing.
Why can’t I create a translated Product Listing?
Check that the English Product Listing has been approved. You can't create a translation from a Product Listing that is in draft, under review or requires changes. Also check that you are managing the correct business and Product Listing.
Can I use a translation tool?
You may use a translation tool to help prepare a draft, but the final content should be checked by someone fluent in the language who understands your product. Don't submit an unreviewed machine translation. Your business remains responsible for the accuracy of the content.
Does the translation need to match the English Product Listing exactly?
It should contain the same core facts, prices, inclusions, conditions and safety information. You can adapt the wording so it reads naturally in the selected language, but you must not introduce unsupported claims or materially different information.
Do my website and booking links need to be in the same language?
Links should lead to webpages in the same language as the translated Product Listing. Check that visitors can understand the product information and progress through the booking journey in that language.
Can I translate only some of the content?
Complete all required fields in the selected language. Don't leave English text in a translated Product Listing unless it is an official product, business or place name that should not be translated.
Will my translation update automatically when I edit the English Product Listing?
No. Review each translated Product Listing whenever important information in the English version changes. Update the affected content and submit it for approval where required.
Can I create translations in more than one language?
Yes. You can create a separate version in each supported language, provided your English Product Listing is approved and your business can provide accurate content and support visitors in those languages.
Does each translated Product Listing need to be approved?
Yes. Each translated version must be submitted and approved before it can be published.
Can I use different prices or conditions in a translated Product Listing?
The translated Product Listing should match the product available through the linked website or booking page. If you offer a genuine market-specific price or condition, make sure it is accurate, clearly explained and available to visitors using that language.
Can I create a translated Travel Deal?
Yes. Once the relevant translated Product Listing has been approved, you can create a Travel Deal in the same language. Make sure the offer, conditions and booking journey are accurate and available to that audience.
Why isn’t my approved translation appearing?
Check that the translated Product Listing is published, the correct language was selected and its website and booking links remain valid. Allow time for approved changes to appear. If it is still missing, contact the Tourism Business Database team.
What should I do if I no longer support a language?
Update or remove the translated Product Listing so visitors are not given an inaccurate expectation of language support. Contact the Tourism Business Database team if you cannot remove or unpublish it yourself.
Can I copy the English content directly into the translated listing?
No. Complete the listing in the selected language. Official names may remain in English where appropriate, but the product information and visitor guidance should be translated.
Who is responsible for the translation?
Your business is responsible for making sure the translated content is accurate, current and appropriate for visitors using that language.
If you cannot create, submit or update a translated Product Listing, contact the Tourism Business Database team.Include:
- your name and email address
- your business name
- the English Product Listing name
- the language you are adding
- the current status of the English Product Listing
- a screenshot of the problem
- the website or booking link you plan to use
